Anime

Lately my love of Nakayoshi has been revitalized. It might be because I've been really into Michiyo Kikuta's series again. I finally caught up with Shoujo Tenshi Milcute, which I honestly believe is the most adorable thing in the world, and also I was really excited to see Ema Tooyama's new series. So I found it was something of a shock to see the above image on the Nakayoshi website. Although I had heard plans of a Shugo Chara! anime, this was the first time I had seen an image from the series which will air this October. To be honest I haven't read all the much of this series even though Del Rey licenced it quickly and volume one is already out in the US. But it's current one of- if not the most- popular series currently running in Nakayoshi. Despite only having four tankobon out in Japan (the fourth one comes out next month), Shugo Chara! is newest in a recent trend of Nakayoshi titles recieving anime adaptions (there was Sugar Sugar Rune, and Mamotte! Lollipop, then Ghost Hunt, and Kamichama Karin). Although, as I had mentioned previously, in a blog entry a while back, it was obivious that this series would have an anime adaption. It's popularity aside, Shugo Chara! was artist group Peach-Pit's first real attempt at shoujo and since all their other series saw anime versions, it stood a really good chance Shugo Chara! would as well.

Tokyopop's Big News

Well, Tokyopop has revealed their plan for the the first half of 2008. ANN has listed the 38 new series TP will release between January and June. So far I am most excited by the list of titles previously licenced by ADV mainy Boku to Kanojo no XXX which I loved and was very sad to see dropped back in '04. Also Aria comes out in January. Although I already own the first three volumes (published by ADV) so I won't actually be buying it for awhile. Another fun announcement was The Twelve Kingdoms novels a la paperback edition. I'll be getting those for sure along with V.B.Rose and Gakuen Alice. It's good to see something like this, it certainly makes me hopeful for the new year!

Summer Sweep

Well it has been a long time since I was active on xanga. I blame LJ because I forgot how addicting that website can be and I'm connecting with a bunch of old friends through the site right now. Anyway, this is officially my last week of school and Wednesday and Thursday are just finals, so I get the feeling the whole thing is going to just blow by really quickly. After this week I should have a little more free time (a little...) so I'll actually be updating my xanga daily again.

New things I hope to include on the site this summer:
+ Much more complete anime episode summaries (with screenshots)
+ Manga reviews
+ Some actual blogging about my real life offline
+ Summer movie reviews
+ Photographs
+ Cosplay Progress Log (with photos)

Here's to a new happy and healthy summer!

Cook Cook Debut!

This is not really final news, but it means big news for my life, so I call it a big deal. After 11 years of enjoying a normal education with all four classes year after year (math, science, english, history) I might be taking an... offbeat senior year. I recently had a very eye opening talk with my school councilor, Mr. Jahn, in which we came to a daring conclusion- I don't really like school, so why am I so hell bent on continuing the way I am now? Instead, in one conversation we took a look at what my strengths actually are... and Mr. Jahn was actually trying to get me to think about art school. They was a moment of stunned silence before my mom and I both said: "pff... no way!" Mr.Jahn looked very confused even after I explained that my artistic abilities weren't really art school ready. It was nice to hear that he thought so. Anyway, so after all that we began talking about my summer plans which include a trip to Johnson & Wales to take part in their cooking program to high schoolers. I had mentioned baking to him once before, but I guess he though I was kidding or something. So then he asked why I didn't apply to my school's Culinary Arts program, and explained that was one of the things I had regretted not doing why I signed up for senior classes. He said even though the deadline had passed, he thought I could have a chance of getting it because two accepted students opted not to go. I never really imagined that I'd spend the bulk of my senior year cooking and baking, but then since it seems to be what I want to do in future- why not?

I'm actually really lucky that they're even thinking of taking me since I signed up late and all, but then maybe this is an act of fate. Even though nothings set it stone. Although it made me really happy I'm going to a school that offers programs like this. And the culinary arts program here is a big deal. We even have our own student run restaurant called The Hideaway. It's very popular among students, teachers, and even the public!

Here's to hoping I really get accepted!

Happy Happy Clover Anime!

According to the Anime News Network, an anime adaption of the adorable Ciao series Happy Happy Clover will begin airing this summer on KIDS STATION.

From what I've read of the series (a few off hand chapters in various Ciao issues) this one is very cute. It's the story of a bunny and her friends who are enjoying their lives in the woods together, playing and having fun. I hope that someone uploads it somewhere. I'd love to hear the character's voices. I'm sure they'll all be very sweet

Germany, I'm Jealous!

Once again it seems Germany got the good stuff before us. Although the US Tokyopop has more titles than its German counterpart, we don't get any Ribon titles from them mainly because Viz Media has close ties Shueisha, and therefore Shueisha is more willing to licence to them. This was one of the reasons that before Viz created Shojo Beat we didn't see any Ribon (or Margaret or Cookie) manga. *sigh* So what am I complaining about today? Rockin*Heaven. That's right Tokyopop will release Mayu Sakai's newest title in Germany this summer.

Really, I'm jealous. It looks so awesome. (Well, I mean I know it's awesome. I meant the cover). Maybe I'll be able to get a copy.

Notes on Lovely Complex 1&2

This is not a proper review, but I just thought I was getting too far behind, so I figured I'd take some notes. But, since I got a little behind last season, and all I've decided that unless I'm able to watch To Terra.. this is going to be the only series I focus on this season. I'll be following Kamichama Karin, but I don't think I'll have enough time to blog it *sad face*. Anyway, on to the notes!

The Good
Mostly everything about this series is amazing! First off I'd like to point out that the anime is following the manga nicely. I'm really happy because Aya Nakahara's witty humor is one of the things that made the manga gold. Second off, I'm pleased with the coloring. Although new fans of the series may think the anime is too bright, anyone who's read the original manga will understand that Nakahara loves to use bold colors to give Love*Com it's own personal feel, and I thought the colors in the anime did a great job of capturing that. Also, Nakahara-sensei's humor shined through in the script which made me very happy. One things for sure, there is no shortage of laughs in this series!

The Bad
I really couldn't find anything bad about the first to episodes! I think Love*Com is some of the best animation Toei has put out in a while. I like a lot of the shows they do, but they haven't always been know to have the best quality. So you can image my surprise when I saw fluid animation, good coloring, and perfect character designs- I felt like I was being treated Bokura ga Ita all over again!

Final Thoughts
This is one I'm going to stick with till the very end. I'm so happy with the way the anime turned out. I was a little worried since it's not everyday that romantic comedies based on shoujo series (Betsuma no less) get made in to prime time slot anime series- but there is a reason Lovely Complex was *sugary smile*
~I can't wait for episode 3

(All screencaps by me. What she had posted made me want to cry with happiness.... a preview of Good Morning Kiss volume 1!!! I am so excited. I'm going to buy it for sure. I'm glad that Takasuka-sensei decided to write a sequel. Actually, that's just me being selfish. I am glad that it ran in Cookie, it really gave her the oppertunity to show Nao and Hirashi is a more grown up light. I can't wait to get it!!!

On a slightly related note, Sunny Side Up the forum to my soon to be re-done ribon shire is currently up and running.

Viz confirms Arakure/ ADV has Air

Wow! It's been a while! I must admit I miss xanga. But it seems like I've been even busier after the con than before it. But Anime Boston 07 was amazing, so it's worth it. Anyway, I'll talk more about the con one I develop/upload all the photos I took. Plus I'm still looking for photos that other people took of Oliva and me, as well as the Death Note photoshoot which was the only one I was in this year.

In PR news, Viz Media has confirmed that the Kiyo Fujiwara manga series they licenced was in fact her latest title Arakure. As I mentioned in an earlier post. They had licenced one of her titles but it was unclear which one. Simply because they're releasing it under the title "Wild Ones". Viz has been changing titles a lot recently. It's making it hard for me to figure out what they're releasing (I really shouldn't complain. I know I'm just being lazy about researching.) I'm happy Arakure was licenced. Fujiwara-sensei's art is really amazing in this one. It certainly shows that by know her style has really evolved and become her own. [Reviews & Info at THAT Anime Blog]

I'll be excited to see this one come out, but we'll have to wait till December to see what kind of job Viz does with it.

In unrelated news, ADV has licenced both Air TV and the movie. The first DVD (of a total of four) goes on sale this August. This is another title I'm excited to finally see licenced (what took so long, honestly) but since I'm already at my spending limit with Haruhi, Tsubasa, & Death Note coming out this year, I'll be waiting for the thinpak of this one.
